Negative ORP
Hydrogen rich water is characterised by exhibiting a negative ORP. A high ORP value (in positive numbers), indicates that a substance has a higher oxidizing potential. In generalised terms, for humans a positive or high ORP is better for the outside of the body (cleaning and sanitizing). A low ORP value (in negative numbers) indicates that a substance has a higher antioxidizing potential with the ability to combat oxidative damage. Just like pH, ORP values are an important measurement for determining the quality of water.

Bottled Mineral Water & Spring Water: super convenient and can be a good source of minerals. Not contaminant-free though....
- Quality ranges all over - we have not tested any close to a 0 mV ORP (not health promoting but not detracting)
- Ditch plastic whenever you can!
- Most are heavily oxidizing (positive ORP score)
- We test Spring Water in WNC all the time. Tastes great, may not be health promoting (even far away from industry)
Reverse Osmosis (dead water): Originally invented to clean sewage from water. Great for making water potable. Poor for hydration
- Strips minerals, necessary for actual hydration and optimal function
- Wastes upwards of 1/3 the water processed
- Flow rate too slow for ionization
Gravity Fed: we have not found any that are NSF 401 certified for industrial contaminants
- Extremely slow filtration
- Often necessary to clean/scrub filters monthly to keep water quality/flow rate
- Have to remember to fill
- Not NSF certified for emerging contaminants (pesticides, medicines, etc)
